Juan Manuel Acosta started learning tango at the age of 16 in Buenos Aires with local milongueros and renowned teachers such as Elvira Virulazo, Gloria y Eduardo, Chicho Frumboli and Los Angio amongst others. At the age of 18 he joined the «Escuela de Tango Rodolfo Dinzel» for another four years.

By the age of 20 he entered the Tango dance company of Hector Mayoral and Elsa Maria in Buenos Aires and also performed at concerts with the «Orquesta del Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires» directed by Raúl Garello. He complemented his tango dance training with courses in contemporary, jazz, ballet and other modern styles in Buenos Aires and London.

While in the UK, Juan Manuel performed in shows by local UK tango dance groups as well as renowned enterprises such as the opera "La Boheme" at the Royal Albert Hall. He also taught tango all around the UK and quickly became well known and sought-after both for his technical skills and for his effective teaching approach.

He worked for the internationally acclaimed dance companies «Tango x 2» (Miguel Angel Zotto), «Tango Pasión» (Hector Zaraspe) and «TangoKinesis» (Ana María Stekelman and Alfredo Arias) with which he performed all over the world. Juan Manuel has also accompanied «Sexteto Fabio Hager». After he returned to Buenos Aires he worked at some of the best known “Casas de Tango” like Taconeando, Señor Tango, Esquina Carlos Gardel and Tango Porteño (where he works currently).
Juan Manuel has been visiting the UK on occasion to teach and perform.
