In our continuing devotion to enriching tango in Cambridge and bringing the Argentine tango culture to the East of England and especially in the Cambridge tango scene, Tangueando arranged an exclusive first UK visit in Cambridge of this excellent duet.
In this only UK performance, Agustín Fuertes and Ariel Varnerín delighted us with their performance of music and singing, evocative of the old Creole Tango duets.

The Fuertes-Varnerín duet, formed by Agustín Fuertes (voice and bass guitar) and Ariel Varnerín (voice and guitar) in 2003 plays a repertoire of tangos, valses and milongas for two voices evoking the creole duets that gave start to tango as a music genre in the early 20th century.
In 13 years of working together, the Fuertes-Varnerín duet has made its way into milongas and Tango festivals in Buenos Aires and around the world with a different approach. Mixing acting and music, they captivate the audience that listens, laughs and dances every time they perform.
«In tango… the sound created by two voices accompanied by guitar is one of the most traditional and at the same time -at least nowadays- one of the less frequented… [Listening to the duet] an aficionado might recall the memorable duets of Gardel-Razzano, Magaldi-Noda or Dante-Martel. This history nourishes the duet Fuertes-Varnerín; a tradition that has long deserved a reflection from the current genre perspective.»
